Matthew Shepard was a gay University of Wyoming student. On the night of October 6, 1998, two men severely beat Matthew and left him tied to a fence just outside of Laramie, Wyoming. Matthew died from his injuries 6 days later, in the early morning hours of October 12, 1998.
Matt's killers were convicted and sentenced to life in prison.
On October 12, 2022, the 24th anniversary of Matt's tragic murder, the Apostolic Sacramental Church received Matthew as a Holy Person and Martyr at a solemn liturgy at Trinity Lutheran Church in Pasadena, California. His memorial is October 12 with an optional memorial on his birthday, December 1.
